v. Baldwin County on 4/5/5

Buccaneer Boys BV Claw Up BCHS Tigers 3-1

The Bucs toyed with Baldwin County High School like a proverbial cat with a proverbial mouse on Tuesday night. The cat came away satisfied. The mouse... eaten!

Spring Break refugees Senior Cody Hicks and Junior Mid Fielder Ben Kuyk were back in the line up and made up for lost time: Hicks with his typical strong defensive play and Kuyk with his physical presence. Junior Forward Ryan Strachan maintained his torrid goal scoring pace with two more plus a slick assist, a short cross along the goal line to Junior Forward Jordan Sinclair for a score. Senior Brett Hegler and Junior Colin McBrearty dominated attackers at their positions. Sophomore Keeper Steven Pearson kept the Tigers pinned back with his trademark booming punts.

(In response to a FEEDBACK, Pirates are also called Buccaneers as in the Buccaneer Bash or the FHS Buccaneer Band.)

Senior Bethany Wansley Gets Hat Trick
Senior Forward Bethany Wansley scored another hat trick as the #9 Pirates de-clawed Baldwin County Tuesday night 4-0. Wansley scored her first goal on a penalty kick just minutes into the game. In the 28th minute, Wansley fought a BCHS defender for the ball, won it in the box and slipped the ball past the keeper. Less than five minutes into the second half, Freshman Lauren Marsh scored after an assist from Senior Lisa Vogel. Wansley finished off the scoring for the Pirates with 33 minutes remaining.

The Lady Pirate defense completely shut down the BCHS attack, giving up only 4 shots on goal. Junior goalkeeper Addie McKee, who blocked a penalty kick after a phantom hand-ball call against the Pirates, was credited with her 8th shut-out of the year. Coach Tim Alford was able to clear his bench and get all the Lady Pirates some quality playing time.
