Pirates Pillage Satsuma

Boys 4-1

Junior Ryan Strachan led the team with a hat trick Monday night as the Boys Varsity defeated Satsuma 4-1. Drew Dolan began the scoring with a nice goal after beating three defenders. Satsuma scored on a PK. Notable was the throw-in as a new offensive weapon due to the narrow field. Colin McBrearty routinely threw the ball 2/3 of the width of the field. The opposing coach could be heard shouting, "Treat the throw-in like a corner kick!"  Pictures here.

Next up for the Boys Varsity is McGill Friday at home

Girls 5-0

The Fairhope Lady Pirates used an impressive ball control game to down the Satsuma Gators Monday night. Fairhope seemingly moved the ball at will, which allowed five different Pirates to score. Just seven minutes into the game, Mandie Martin scored, drilling the ball with her left foot. In the 27th minute, Courtney Casto placed a direct kick just above the outstretched arms of Satsuma's keeper for Fairhope's second goal. With just over a minute left in the first half, Katie Jorgensen scored from about 20 yards out. In the second half, Rachel Serda slipped a ball to Bethany Wansley who outran the Satsuma defender and then beat their keeper. Just before the end of the game, Lauren Marsh sent a nice crossing ball to Kay Douglass for Fairhope's final score.
Fairhope's smothering defense, led by Courtney Casto, Katherine Seibt, Leah Impastato and Mallorie Sain, allowed only one shot on goal from Satsuma.
