Boys roll BCHS and empty benches in 8-0 goal frenzy

Bay Minette, AL - The Fairhope at Baldwin County High School boys soccer match Tuesday night was a one-sided affair with the hosts left out of the fun. Fairhope’s powerful squad spread the field and spread the scoring on the way to an 8-0 win.

Senior captain Jordan Sinclair (11) scored first in the 11th minute off a long throw-in by fellow senior Collin McBrearty. In the 27th minute senior captain Ryan Strachan took a short pass off a corner kick, slipped past one defender and drilled a shot on goal that rebounded off of the goal keeper to junior Brian Keyser who calmly sent it to the back of the net for the score. Six minutes later Strachan chased down a long ball from senior Ben Kuyk, struck a hard ball at the charging keeper that ricocheted like a pin ball, first off the keeper, then off Strachan, to roll softly into the mouth of the goal.

The second half began with a flurry of four Pirate goals in the first 12 minutes. First, Strachan took a long cross from Keyser and lofted a twenty-five yard left-footed shot that drifted into the upper ninety just like on the EPL highlights shows. Four minutes later, right midfielder junior Frank Sutley (3) took a David Allen ball deep into the corner, dribbled through three defenders, and laid a gentle far-post shot into the net. Three minutes went by and sophomore Allen played a cross to junior Stanton Lee who slipped one by the keeper for the score. Then Lee found the goal again, this time off of a Sutley though-ball. Sam Nokovich closed out the scoring in the 20th minute off a nice pass from Lee.

All 22 Pirates saw quality playing time with the second team playing most of the second half and accounting for three of the second half goals. Keepers junior Steven Pearson and sophomore Steve Ard combined efforts for the clean sheet. Fairhope soccer coach Paul Stroud noted, “we started slowly, but I hope that was because of the two-week lay-off. Once we found our legs, we played much better. I am extremely pleased with how my young guys played tonight,” Stroud said.

Fairhope leads the 6A Section 2 race with two wins and no losses. They will travel to meet section rival Foley Friday night. Saturday they host Montgomery’s #4 ranked Trinity Presbyterian’s Wildcats at noon at W.C. Majors Field at Fairhope Municipal Stadium.
