Fairhope, AL - Fairhope's coach Paul
Stroud may have caught a glimpse of the future of his soccer program
tonight. And it is sweet.
Less
than three minutes into the game his Pirates strung together a half
a dozen or more passes ending with junior Frank Sutley playing a
ball into the corner for Jordan Sinclair to run on to. Sinclair head
fakes a defender and hits a hard pass across the middle finding
junior Drew Dolan for the score.
Four minutes later Dolan finds junior
Brian Keyser who finds net. Two-zip.
Three minutes later Keyser blasts a shot
off the keeper's ribs. It deflects to Dolan's feet. Goal! 3-0.
Stroud's grin was ear to ear. The future
is sweet indeed. Not to mention that the Fairhope Boy's JV squad
polished off every other team in the county ending with a 12-0-1
record. Sweet.
Back to the game...
It seemed that every time Daphne would mount an attack the
fleet-footed senior Ben Kuyk would appear as if out of thin air,
steal the ball, and send the attackers crashing to the turf. Not to
be out-done, defenders Colin McBrearty and Stewart Garner allowed no
Trojan activity on their corners. And junior Tim Canarela roamed the
field looking for those he would devour.
Daphne
did manage a goal with seven minutes left in the second half on a
momentary brain lapse, but that was quickly evened as Sinclair took a
Keyser pass which split two defenders and then he slipped a soft
ball by a charging keeper for the last score. Final 4-1.
Happy day stats: Junior Drew Dolan had two goals and an assist.
Junior Brian Keyser had a goal and two assists. Senior captain
Sinclair had a goal and an assist.
The Pirates are at home again on Friday for Senior Night against
BCHS. Girls at 5:30 pm; boys at 7:30 pm. Senior Night activities are
immediately after the first game.
