Fairhope, AL - In what may have been a
playoff preview the Fairhope and McGill-Toolen boys soccer teams
fought to a 2-2 tie in a classic battle on beautiful spring Tuesday
evening at W.C. Majors field in Fairhope.
The
Fairhope Pirates got on the boards first in the 24th minute on a
goal by junior Ricky Harris assisted by Brian Keyser.
McGill's Shawn Hester evened it up in the
32nd minute on long shot from outside the eighteen yard box. Three
minutes later McGill scored again as William Cunningham lofted
another long shot over the keeper for the score. The half ended with
McGill up 2-1.
The Pirates dominated possession in the
second half taking shot after shot. The McGill keeper turned away
shot after shot until the 36th minute when Fairhope's Frank
Sutley drilled a 25-yarded over the keeper for the tying score.
Credit Keyser with another assist.
Playing with a controlled intensity
Fairhope continued to rain down shots on goal, but were unlucky as
shots ricocheted off the cross bar, were deflected by the keeper or
found the feet of a lucky defender.
Next for the Pirates boys team is section
rival Daphne High School on Tuesday at 5:30 pm at W.C. Majors Field.
Girls play at 7:30 pm.
