v. Northridge on 2/17/6Pirate Boys Top Fifth-Ranked 5A Northridge 5-1 in SS 2nd Round Bay Minette, AL -- The Pirates continued their early season roll with a 5-1 win over the Northridge Jaguars in the second round of the Southern Shootout in Bay Minette on Friday night. Senior Jordan Sinclair led the scoring with a second half hat trick. Fairhope took the lead early in the game when in the 10th minute Senior Matt Tabor lifted a beautiful corner kick finding Freshman Nathan Haywood on the far post for the score. The Pirates and Jaguars played fairly even soccer through the rest of the half. After a halftime pep talk by Coach Paul Stroud, the yellow-clad Pirates came out strong and in the 6th minute Sinclair stole a ball from the sweeper, split two defenders and curled it around the advancing keeper for the score. Then in the 20th minute Ryan Strachan played a ball over the top to Sinclair who kneed it over a defender and pushed it by the keeper for the score. In the 32nd minute, Sinclair was fouled as he exited the penalty area and was awarded a penalty kick. He converted and earned his hat. Fairhope ended it's scoring on a Strachan goal off of Sinclair's free kick. Credit strong defensive play again tonight including outstanding keeper play by Junior Steven Pearson who stared down a Northridge forward so unnerving him that the forward shanked the ball wide of the goal.
