Fairhope, AL - The visiting Peachtree
Ridge High School Lions from Gwinnett, Georgia overcame a feisty
reserve Pirate squad 2-0 in Saturday's match at W.C. Majors Field.
This
non-section, out-of-state match-up was a made-to-order time for
Pirate Coach Paul Stroud to kill several birds with the throw of one
stone: rest some legs after a tough Friday night match in
Robertsdale; get a good look at next year's squad; and get a
breather in advance of tough Monday & Tuesday matches this week.
And get a good look he did. Freshman and
sophomores took over offense, defense and midfield for much of the
match and played even with the Lion until a second half free kick
scooted through a wall of defenders and found the net. Later a nice
cross from a Peachtree Ridge midfielder connected with a streaking
forward and the the score was two naught.
Pirates
are on the home pitch Monday when the St. Pauls School Saints come
marching in and again on Tuesday when the McGill Yellow Jackets buzz
in for a match. Game time is 6:30 for both games.
