Fairhope, AL -- The undefeated Fairhope Boys Varsity
opened their 2006 6A section 2 schedule on Tuesday night with a
shutout win over the Satsuma High School Gators in front of the home
crowd. Satsuma held the powerful Pirate offense scoreless in the
first half aided in some small degree by a serious injury to
Fairhope star striker senior Ryan Strachan who left the game not to
return. After a half time chat
with Head Coach Paul Stroud, the white clad squad spread the field
and connected some passes. In the 54th minute senior Colin McBrearty
made a throw in toward the Satsuma goal to fellow senior Jordan
Sinclair who headed the ball toward the goal. A defender stepped in
front to block the ball and ricocheted it back to Sinclair who
volleyed into the net to break the scoreless tie.
Then in the 73rd minute, McBrearty made
another throw in, this time to junior Drew Dolan who rejoined the
team before the game. Dolan turned and chipped to Sinclair who beat
keeper with low header to the back post. Dolan, who recently
concluded his basketball season, came on for the first time this
season midway through the first half and was a major asset. Also
returning from the other round ball are juniors Sam Miller and David
Anderson. Pirate keeper Steve Pearson made several outstanding saves
to hold the Gators to a goose egg.
