2006 Fairhope Middle School
Friday 3/31/6
The FMS boys brought their season to a
disappointing finish with a 2-0 loss to Foley in the finals of the county
tournament. The boys played their hearts out, and possessed the ball about
2/3 of the game. They strung passes together several times in the first half
with several penetrations against the quick back line of Foley, but were
unable to put one away. Foley scored in the 23rd minute of the first half
with a put-back off a direct kick to take a 1-0 lead into the half. The
second half saw just about constant pressure on the Foley end, but again,
the boys couldn't get a finis. With the boys pressing ahead in the 45th
minute, a Foley player in behind the back line took a ball right and beat
the keeper to the far post.
Thursday 3/30/6
The Fairhope Middle School boys moved on to the
finals of the County Tournament with a 5-0 semi-final win over Daphne at
Robertsdale Stadium. The Pirates jumped on the Trojans quickly, intercepting
the opening touch and launching Dalton Morgan on a dash to the net. Only a
leaping save by the Daphne keeper prevented the goal with less than 30
seconds gone in the game. The pressure continued and Morgan came up with
another nice rush and tucked it in the far post at the 4:45 mark. Chad Dolan
was in on the keeper at the 9:20 mark and finished a bobbled save for the
2-0 lead. Morgan followed with his second goal of the night at 12:50, and
Parker Williams tallied a goal at 14:07 for the halftime lead at 4-0. Tuesday 3/28/6
County Champs! The FMS boys completed the regular
season Tuesday night with a 2-0 win over Foley. The win leaves the boys 13-0
on the season, in first place in the county standings, and the first seed
for the upcoming county tournament.
The Fairhope Middle School Girls defeated visiting St. Paul's 4-1 Monday
evening in a cool, windy soccer match at Founder's Park. St. Paul's
controlled the first five minutes of the match with the ball in Fairhope's
defending third for much of the time. Fairhope gave up numerous corner kicks
but was able to defeat each one. Monday 3/27/6
The FMS boys rolled on to a 12-0 record with a 2-0 blanking of St Pauls at
Founders Park on Monday. Consistent pressure and good possession in the
midfield kept St Pauls on the defensive for most of the contest. The Pirates
outshot the Saints 11-2, with one ball off the crossbar and another off the
far post. Thursday 3/16/6 The FMS boys continued their drive to the playoffs with a 2-0 win over UMS at Sage Park on Thursday afternoon. UMS pressured the Pirates touch all afternoon, with the rough field conditions making it tough for Pirates to settle balls cleanly. Still, the boys did find plenty of space wide in the attacking third, and sent cross after cross through the UMS box.
Chad Dolan netted the first goal in the 19th minute on an unassisted shot from 25 yards out. Dolan, Mike Keyser and Bobby Douglass effectively controlled possession in the midfield, but the Pirates were unable to net another goal until the 49th minute, when Dalton Morgan turned a pretty cross in front of the UMS net, and Nick Fassanello drilled home the second score.
David Bernasconi recorded yet another shutout,
facing only one shot all afternoon. Ben Studstill, Ben Reynolds and Jay
Kasper all had strong performances at outside midfield for the Pirates. The
boys will be off until Monday March 27th at 5:30 when they face off with St
Pauls at Founders Park. Saturday 3/11/6 The Fairhope Middle School Boys romped to a 6-0 win over Central Baldwin Middle School Saturday morning in Orange Beach. Parker Williams opened the scoring in the first minute with a shot from deep in the right corner of the field that snuck in the back side of the net over the keeper's outstretched hands. Dalton Morgan followed shortly with his first goal of the morning. Patrick Marsh finished the first half scoring just before the break with a penalty kick following a handball by Robertsdale.
The second half started with Morgan continuing his
scoring binge with a penetrating run and a shot in the left corner of the
net. Trevor Forbess added a goal after some nice dribbling deep in the CBMS
end put him in alone on the keeper. The final goal came on a quick restart
of an indirect kick by Mike Keyser, feeding a wide open Dalton Morgan to
complete his second hat trick of the season. Nate Vosciky recorded the
shutout for the Pirates. Chad Dolan and Patrick Marsh added strong games
which kept the Pirates in possession 75% of the game. The Pirates outshot
the Bears 15-2. FMS (10-0) returns to action on Thursday at Sage Park
against UMS at 4:30. Thursday 3/9/6 The FMS boys were introduced to the bunker defense Thursday night in a game against Central Baldwin Middle School in Robertsdale. CBMS launched the opening kick into the Fairhope end and then retreated to their half of the field and played defense the rest of the night.
Packing 11 players in front of the ball, CBMS frustrated the Pirate attack throughout the first half, turning away almost continuous pressure on the Robertsdale goal. The half ended with no score, but a confidence that the Pirates could find a hole in the CBMS defense in the 2nd half.
Seven minutes into the 2nd half, Chad Dolan fought off several defenders, recovered from two trips and fed the ball wide to Ben Reynolds on the right wing. Reynolds drove the corner and hit a textbook cross to the back post where Dalton Morgan calmly headed home the game winner. Less than 5 minutes later, Mike Keyser collected a ball about 30 yards out, beat several defenders off the dribble and then tucked a shot into the left side of the net, grazing the post on the way in. The Pirates continued to hold and move the ball as frustration set in for CBMS.
The Pirates possessed the ball over 80% of the
game, and allowed CBMS to possess the ball across midfield only three times
the entire game. Keeper Dave Bernasconi never handled a ball the entire
game. The undefeated Pirates (9-0) will be back in action against CBMS in
Orange Beach on Saturday morning at 10 AM. Monday 3/6/6
The Fairhope girls
fought hard on Monday night versus the Daphne team. A handball in the
box resulted in a perfect penalty kick by Maria Peters of the Daphne
Trojans. The Fairhope defensive front was strong but not tough enough to
handle a cross from the left side from Trojan Alexa Samry to Maria Peters
who bulleted a shot into the net. Fairhope goal keeper Claire was able to
fend off several Daphne shots and the half ended at 2-0 Daphne.

Monday 3/6/6
Fans were treated to a "beautiful game" Monday night by the Pirates FMS
boys. Combination play generated numerous dangerous attacks as Fairhope beat
Daphne 4-0 at Trione Park. The March 6th game was dominated by the Pirates
mid-field. Three of the attacks that led to goals went through center-mid
Chad Dolan including two scored by Dalton Morgan. Saturday 2/25/6
The FMS Pirate Boys team took home the championship trophy from the
Buccaneer Bash over the weekend. The boys opened with an uninspired 3-0 win
over UMS on Friday afternoon, jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the first 4
minutes but then backing off with some ragged play through much of the rest
of the game. David Bernasconi made a great save to preserve the shutout
before the Pirates finally tallied their third goal. Thursday 2/23/6 The FMS boys beat Bay Minette Middle School 1-0 on Thursday afternoon in Bay Minette. FMS wasn't on their best game, but held the Tigers without a shot through the first half.
Patrick Marsh and Bobby Douglass anchored the defense, while the offense found it's stride. In the second half, the Pirates got on the board after Mike Keyser won the ball in the middle, fed it wide to Ben Studstill, who then hit a streaking Dalton Morgan with a through ball for a breakaway. Morgan faked the keeper right, pushed it left and tucked the ball in the left side of the open net.
Another combination led to another breakaway by Morgan, but his left footed
shot missed just wide to the right. The Pirates kept the pressure on Bay
Minette throughout the second half, allowing only one shot, which was wide
of the mark. Overall the Pirate boys outshot the Tigers 14-1. The boys return
to action at Majors Field at 4 PM on Friday against UMS in the first round
of the Buccaneer Bash. Thursday 2/16/6 FMS boys used a solid team effort to earn a 7-1 win over UMS-Wright tonight at Founders Field. Parker Williams knocked in an early goal and his fellow striker Dalton Morgan followed later in the first half. The Pirate midfield and defense dominated a first half in which starting keeper Nate Vosicky did not even touch a ball!
The Pirates scored quickly to open the second half
on 30+yard shot by stopper Bobby Douglass. Mike Keyser gave the Pirates a
four goal lead before the Bulldogs pulled one back with 12 minutes
remaining. The Pirates kept possession for over 70% of the game and found
the back of the net three more times in the last ten minutes. Morgan scored
his second of the evening, Patrick Marsh beat the keeper one-on-one after
being slipped a sweet through-ball from Walker Richardson, and Trevor
Forbess finished off a Marsh cross. The 2-0 Pirates are next in action 4:30
Thursday, February 23 at Bay Minette Middle School followed by the Buccaneer
Bash Middle School tournament at Founders on the 24th and 25th at Founders. Monday 2/13/6 FMS boys edged Foley 3-2 in a shootout for their first victory of the season. Parker Williams scored early in the 2nd half to even up the game at 1-1. Then Chad Dolan netted a 30-yarder in the upper right corner to even it up a second time with about 3 minutes to play. The boys moved the ball very well against a large, fast, physical and skilled Foley squad. After two scoreless five minute overtimes, the teams moved to kicks from the mark. Dalton Morgan, Patrick Marsh, Mike Keyser and Chad Dolan netted goals in the shootout. Shootout keeper Chad Dolan came up with a big save to go with one Foley shot over the crossbar for the deciding 4-3 margin. Overall the boys outshot Foley 14-7, with David Bernasconi coming through with five saves for the Pirates. The boys are back in action on Thursday at 4:30 against UMS at Founders Park.
